Gibby Haynes & His Problem

Gibby Haynes & His Problem

Gibby Haynes’ biggest problem may be that no one remembers his band the Butthole Surfers. Haynes’ solo debut doesn’t deviate too far from latter-day Butthole, perhaps a disappointment coming from a once-infamous deviant such as Haynes. But catchy little gems “Kaiser,” Woo” and “15,000” are a fine substitute for the kind of anarchy the Buttholes once offered. Who would have ever guess that in 2004 someone like Haynes would release one of the year’s most hummable alt-pop records?

Take away: Problem pop
