Working women are far more interested in solutions to domestic issues like joblessness and education (79 percent) than international ones like homeland security and trade (21 percent), a recent survey shows.

The poll of more than 7,300 women by the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation found that held true despite political ideology. Asked “which issues will influence your vote the most,” domestic issues had a 2-1 edge among Republican women, a 4-1 advantage among Independents and nearly a 7-1 advantage among Democrats.

The survey found about 98 percent of respondents considered health-care costs to be of major or moderate concern. Pat Cornish, chair of the Washington, D.C.-based foundation, hopes the results will shape how presidential candidates, other politicians and business leaders fashion their approach.

“Despite the daily front-page news coverage of the war in Iraq and the war on terrorism, overwhelmingly domestic issues take precedence over international issues,” Cornish said.
