Stealing of a Nation

Radio 4 were among the first out of the gate in New York City’s punk-funk revival, but groups such as the Rapture and !!! have since stolen their thunder. “Stealing of a Nation” attempts to reignite some of that excitement by upping the dance factor, substituting four-on-the-floor beats for the herky-jerky martial rhythms that once drove the band. Have no fear, though: The sloganeering of “Party Crashers,” “No Reaction,” “State of Alert” and “The Death of American Radio” still sounds plenty agitated, but the group sacrifices diversity for the sake of the almighty groove. For all intents and purposes, “Stealing of a Nation” may as well be one long song, a 50-minute invitation to revolution via disco reinvention that stops just short of desperation to get the dance floor started.
