Homewood-Flossmoor’s Julian Wright verbally committed to Kansas a day after an in-home meeting with Jayhawks coach Bill Self, several Internet outlets reported Friday.
Wright, a 6-foot-8-inch forward, is ranked among the top 10 recruits in the nation. He earned second-team Tribune All-State recognition after leading Homewood-Flossmoor to a 31-3 record and a runner-up finish at the Class AA state tournament.
Wright averaged 10.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.7 steals last season, collecting 13 points, seven rebounds and four blocks in the Vikings’ 53-47 loss to Peoria Central in the state title game. He chose Kansas over Illinois and Arizona–where he had made official visits–and DePaul.
Wright was unavailable for comment Friday, and Vikings coach Roy Condotti declined to confirm Wright’s choice.
“He’s got four really good choices, four really great options,” Condotti said. “The decision is in his hands.
“If he made it, great. I don’t think he can make a bad choice.”
