Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Toss the pointy-toed Manolos. Give low-rider jeans to needy tweens. Use anything with an ’80s vibe as a wee-wee pad for your potty-challenged pup.

With fall demanding crisp, old-school elegance, most bold-faced designers are riffing vintage ensembles to resurrect 1940s silhouettes. Instead of spending the big bucks, get smart and use grandma’s mothball-scented closet or vintage shops as your personal Saks Fifth Avenue.

Hunt for anything that Grace Kelly could have sported in “Rear Window.” Look for round-toed pumps, houndstooth jackets and capes, brooches, glamorous alligator, lizard or velvet totes with snap closures, full Katharine Hepburn-style trousers, silky blousons with ties at the neck, to-the-knee tweed pencil skirts, funky gilded belts, anything fur (scarves, hats, wraps, coats).

Do not be intimidated by things that are too big for you. An excellent tailor can effortlessly suck the sizes out and leave you with a like-new garment. If grandma’s closet does not yield the goods, try these great vintage and resale shops.
