Kittie
Until the End
As few women as there are at heavy metal shows, there are exponentially fewer female headbangers actually onstage. Fortunately, Kittie is much more than a Vixen for a new generation, in no small part because singer Morgan Lander can growl and scream as well as the guys. In fact, she sounds downright terrifying on the grinding “Look So Pretty” and “Burning Bridges,” while the contrast between her “pretty” singing and her more menacing backup screeches on the single “Into the Darkness” and the title track makes for a neat trick. The disc is darker and has more guts than anything Metallica’s done lately, proving once and for all that metal doesn’t need tons of testosterone to succeed.
