The International Gymnastics Federation will announce Saturday whether judges made scoring errors in Wednesday’s men’s all-around won by American Paul Hamm, spokesman Philippe Silacci said Friday.

Hamm, the first American male gold medalist in all-around, beat Korea’s Kim Dae-eun by 12/1,000ths of a point. Yang Tae Young of Korea, who had been leading the competition until his final rotation on the horizontal bar, took bronze.

Regardless of the federation’s findings, Hamm cannot lose his gold medal, Silacci said.

“The rule is very clear,” he said. “We cannot change any ranking or any score.”

In a statement released Friday, the federation said judges are evaluated after all major events.

But an official confirmed that the Korean federation had filed a protest. USA Gymnastics officials declined comment.
