You are invited to a sleepover with your closest friends and about a million other kids, and you don’t even have to leave your house.
Stop in for a slumber party via the Internet this Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. when KOL, America Online’s service for kids, hosts “The Best Ever Sleepover Party.” The keyword is Best Ever Sleepover.
Rick Adams, who hosts KOL’s daily online radio show, will emcee the evening. “I expect I’ll need a nice lie down afterward,” says Adams, who promises to be wearing his original “Star Wars” pajamas during the event.
Adams grew up in England, where sleepovers are called “midnight feasts.” “But you Americans do things bigger and better,” he says.
“The Best Ever Sleepover Party” takes its title, and its various scheduled interactive games and activities segments, from “Best Ever
Sleepover!” The 35-minute video follows five best friends from dusk ’til dawn, playing games, making homemade snacks, styling in the latest pajama fashions and fending off the intrusions of a bratty younger brother (they later take sweet revenge with whipped cream).
Wheaton native Melissa Peterson, 13, portrays Zoe in the video. She will join cast members Morgan Teichmiller and Ariana Dvornik in KOL’s Virginia studios to demonstrate some of the games featured on the video.
For Melissa, sleepovers are all about “the fun time you have, the crazy games you play, sitting around with my friends and just talking and talking until we fall asleep.”
Radio KOL will serve as Sleepover Central. Adams will get the party started, take song requests, field phone calls and IMs, and pass along shout-outs and sleepover tips from participants. Segments from the “Best Ever Sleepover!” video will demonstrate activities and snack recipes.
