The event in Puerto Rico was billed as the Tournament of the Americas for Junior Women. But it turned into another showcase for Candace Parker. The Naperville Central grad and her U.S. teammates were embarrassingly dominant in winning the gold medal and berth in the 2005 world junior championships in Tunisia. Parker averaged 16.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 3.4 steals and 2.4 blocks as the U.S. finished 5-0. But she played only 19 minutes a game–and only eight in a 124-49 win over Puerto Rico. “Playing for the first time with USA on my chest–it was exciting,” said Parker, who leaves Thursday for the University of Tennessee. “That’s definitely a dream of mine . . . to compete in the Olympics.”
