Junior Boys

Last Exit

Canada’s Junior Boys at first don’t seem to be pushing many boundaries with this synth- pop masterwork, but after a few listens, their strategy becomes clear and novel. While the duo draws from ’80s staples such as Depeche Mode and New Order, they infuse their beats and melodies with plenty of empty space and pregnant pauses, recalling the electro-acoustic trickery of the Notwist and also the hip-hop genius of Timbaland.
