The village’s downtown commuter train station has seen better days, but it may be a while before the station undergoes significant renovations as officials put together a larger improvement plan for downtown.

“The entire Main Street area, we have big plans for it,” said Trustee Emmanuel Imoukhuede.

Meanwhile, officials said they would address complaints of overgrown weeds and shoddy landscaping at the station. That will require the assistance of Metra, which has jurisdiction over the station.

“For nearly a month there was a public-safety issue at the top of the stairs leading to the west parking lot,” Sue Stripens of Richton Park said at Monday’s Village Board meeting. “Tall weeds with thick stalks were bent from storms and were blocking this walkway. Commuters had to daily step over these weeds to reach the station.”
