Jesse Harris and the Ferdinados

While the Music Lasts

Even if you’ve never heard of Jesse Harris, you’ve probably heard his songs. Harris, after all, was responsible for writing Norah Jones’ ubiquitous “Don’t Know Why.” But as a solo artist, Harris has demonstrated himself a capable, confident and consistent (if not necessarily captivating) singer and songwriter, a reputation backed by his fine third solo disc. Harris’ pleasant singing and solid craft take center stage. Offering a subdued form of Americana, songs such as “Wish I Was a Bird,” “Mirror Ball” and the title track subtly defy categorization, squeezing in elements of country, jazz, rock and folk with a laid-back deftness most songwriters struggle to achieve.
