Village officials this week appointed Capt. Thomas Fleming as the new chief of police, replacing retiring chief Francis DioGuardi.

Fleming, 47, becomes chief on Oct. 1. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from Governors State University. He is a former member of the Flossmoor Village Board.

DioGuardi, a 33-year department veteran, held the top post for about a year.
