20,000 Streets Under the Sky
When last we left our would-be rock saviors Marah, the Philadelphia band had hooked up with Oasis producer Owen Morris and tried to take over the world. But as inevitably befalls such Icarus-like idealists, Marah got burnt and fell far. “20,000 Streets Under the Sky” is the sound of a band picking itself up and starting over. Back is the Springsteenian imagery and the nods to classic ’60s music, the hand claps, party vocals and charming rough edges. The fraternal team of Dave and Serge Bielanko sweat the stuff of old-school rock ‘n’ roll, and “East” and “Freedom Park” are positively soaking in it.
