Royal City

Little Heart’s Ease

At times stricken by flat vocal production, Royal City battles this affliction with vibrant-yet-easy guitars and an occasional enchanting harmonica or crisp, vivacious drum part. The band’s third album generally lacks the quirky traces of its last disc, but the music remains intelligent and genuine to the core. Even those who don’t count country music among their favorites can appreciate the folky warmth of “Little Heart’s Ease,” adding to the ever-growing alt-country output that is putting contemporary country artists to shame.
