ABC has added a comedy starring John Stamos to its midseason roster, where it will join three new dramas and the returning “Alias.”

Stamos will play Jake Phillips, a slick New York publicist with a star-packed client list. He’s constantly on call for both his work and his personal life, where he fancies himself a ladies’ man.

The show has undergone a change from its original format, which was to have unfolded in real time as it followed Stamos’ character on a daylong date. The series will now proceed as a more traditional comedy, although characters originally conceived for the pilot will remain in the show.

A show starring Jennifer Love Hewitt as an ESPN producer-turned-reporter is also reportedly under consideration. The network also has new dramas “Eyes,” “Blind Justice” and “Grey’s Anatomy” on tap for midseason and is holding “Alias” back until January to allow it to air without reruns.
