The End is Near
Apocalyptic imagery doesn’t come much more explicit than “The End’s Not Here,” the lead track on The New Year’s second album. Such gloominess comes as little surprise, considering the band features songwriting brothers Matt and Bubba Kadane of the late, great Bedhead. “Sinking Ship” and “18” are unbelievably sad and pretty, while “Plan B” and “Start” show the Kadanes are still capable of creating a dramatic racket.
