The DuPage County Forest Preserve District has been awarded a $150,000 grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation to acquire 2.8 acres of wetlands adjacent to West Chicago Prairie Forest Preserve.

According to district President Dewey Pierotti, the grant is expected to cover “a majority” of the purchase price of the property, located on the western boundary of the preserve. West Chicago Prairie currently covers 313 acres and is home to about 575 native plants and 150 species of wildlife.
