Village officials this week approved borrowing $3.5 million to help fund expansion of the village library.
Mayor Steven Landek said the village could buy revenue bonds at a cheaper interest rate. “We can borrow money cheaper than they could get it at a bank,” he said.
Library reserve funds also are being put toward the $5.2 million, 19,000 square foot project.
The expansion will double the size of the library at 7840 W. 79th St., creating more room for materials, children’s programs, and community meetings.
Library Board President John Altar said the project should be completed in a little more than a year. The library will remain open during the work.
