Rarely does a group choose a name as apt as the Beta Band: Since its neo-psychedelic breakthrough “The 3 E.P.s,” the Scottish group has been in a constant state of evolution. “Heroes to Zeros,” its third full-length album, is like version 3.0 of the Beta Band, and at last the group sounds comfortable in its own skin. Granted, its shambling roots are missed, and songs “Space” and “Easy” still sound like near-clinical rock/funk/folk psychedelic pastiches. Even if you hate it in principle, you’ll likely hum along with it in practice.
