Laura Demke’s once-untouchable record for career goals has been shattered by high school soccer All-American Ashlee Pistorius of Normal’s University High.
Going into her final regular-season game, Pistorius had 212 goals after scoring four–including her 60th–in a 12-0 victory Tuesday over Lincoln.
The previous mark (205) was set by Cary-Grove’s Demke in 1987-90.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if she scored 70 or 80 goals this season,” said Pistorius’ coach, Bodo Fritzen, whose Pioneers are 17-0 and a have a good chance at reaching the Class A quarterfinals May 28 in Naperville. “She has been healthy, and we have a very strong team.”
Pistorius, who had 116 goals her first two years, was limited by hamstring problems as a junior and totaled 37. The senior All-American, who is headed for Texas A&M, is now chasing Demke’s Illinois season record of 76 set in 1990.
She ranks fourth nationally behind the 286 scored by Erin Martin of Temple City, Calif.
