L.A.’s Dilated Peoples have been around for a while as underground rap staples, but with their third album, they really sound like they’re trying to kick their careers up to the next level. With the mostly mellow production split between DP regulars such as DJ Babu and Alchemist, the focus falls on MCs Evidence and Rakaa, and they don’t disappoint. DP deftly updates old-school flow with plenty of contemporary swagger, and the top-dog/underdog dialectic is sure to please fans from both sides of the mainstream divide.
