The Yankees opened their 2004 baseball season for the second of three times Tuesday night–and to be perfectly honest about this–for openers, these first two have been pretty awful.

Granted, we all know this was only three games (albeit 15,000 miles apart) into the season, . . . but we can only imagine how one particular Yankees devotee sitting in the visiting team owner’s box must have felt seeing his $180 million caravan of stars swallowed up and spit out by Lou Piniella’s $23 million Devil Rays for the second opener in a week.

Hey, Boss, it ain’t easy being green.

Mike Mussina, the primary culprit in both of these Opening Day prat-falls, will tell you it ain’t easy being jet-lagged either. At least that was his excuse last week in Japan. Tuesday night, back on good old Eastern daylight saving time, Mussina was still a picture of bewilderment.
