Four years ago this weekend, Kyle Petty and his son Adam raced for the first–and last–time in the same Winston Cup event. Texas Motor Speedway “will always be special because of that,” Kyle Petty said. “This was the first and only time he ran a Winston Cup car. This was his only big race.” A month later, Adam Petty died in a crash during testing at New Hampshire International Speedway. He was 19 years old. Kyle Petty, a driver/owner in the Nextel Cup series, was back at the speedway in Ft. Worth for Sunday’s Samsung/Radio Shack 500. He said he came to remember and appreciate the good times. “Even though [Adam] didn’t finish, he ran real well that day,” Petty said.
