Graham Parker

Your Country

There’s something deliciously sardonic about British singer Graham Parker titling his first album for Chicago’s twang-friendly label Bloodshot “Your Country,” two words that are deviously rife with multiple meanings. But “Your Country” turns out to be a relatively sunny and straightforward roots-rock disc, perhaps a surprise coming from a songwriter generally renown for his bitterness. The most welcome element of the disc is its consistency, a nice turn for a talented artist whose body of work is frustratingly uneven.
