The Village Board is expected to approve a revised road improvement project along 163rd Street as part of a future expansion project for the Marcus Cinemas.

Last year, Marcus Cinemas received board approval to expand the theater complex from 14 to 17 movie screens and eventually to add a four-story parking deck to the theater property.

Marcus, in turn, agreed to help provide road and intersection improvements, including widening 163rd Street and adding two left-turn lanes on 163rd Street at La Grange Road.

But the revised proposal that the Planning and Economic Development Committee approved this week and sent to the full board calls for one left-turn lane, a straight-away lane and a right-turn lane.

Marcus attorney David Sosin said the updated proposal would provide better traffic flow through the intersection. “Two left-turn lanes would limit the amount of traffic that could travel through the intersection and with a double left-turn lane you can’t turn left when the arrow goes off,” Sosin said.

The full board is expected to vote on the plan next month.
