DuPage County Forest Preserve District commissioners on Tuesday approved an agreement allowing DuPage County to acquire a strip of land in Swift Prairie Forest Preserve along the north side of Army Trail Road for a scheduled road-widening project.
Under the terms of the intergovernmental agreement, the county will pay the district $150,000 for the land and the value of the trees on the property.

Chuck Tokarski, director of transportation for DuPage County, said the county plans to widen a portion of Army Trail Road to six lanes from four to ease congestion. The project is scheduled to begin this summer and will include the portion of Army Trail Road between Swift and Glen Ellyn Roads that borders the preserve.
“It is really just a capacity improvement to ease congestion and address some safety issues,” Tokarski said. “We will be putting in some turn lanes also.”
