Aw C’Mon/No, You C’Mon
Lambchop leader Kurt Wagner claims “Aw C’Mon” and “No, You C’Mon” are meant to be stand-alone albums. But since the two discs were written and recorded at the same time–and packaged and sold together–it’s impossible not to treat the set as a two-part epic. The two albums find the Nashville collective returning to lush, heavily orchestrated soul following the spare detour of its last album, “Is A Woman.” The results are as fine as usual, with Wagner’s gentle grumble of a voice and occasional falsetto floating atop layers of typically beautiful and spooky chamber pop.
Take away: Country soul
