Residents and city officials this week took a closer look at several options for a bike route that would connect Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve Trail to the future Virgil Gilman Trail near Frontier Park sports complex.
With about 20 different routes identified by city planners, residents reviewed about a half-dozen of the best options and weighed issues such as traffic, cost and construction.
Many of the small group in attendance agreed a trail along Book Road made the most sense, but also was an engineering challenge and expensive.
The Book Road route would extend from 87th Street to Frontier Park. The cost was estimated at $50,000 to $60,000 per half-mile. The city plans to meet with residents again from 7 to 9 p.m. April 19 in City Hall, 400 S. Eagle St.
