Paul Kelly

Ways & Means

One of Australia’s greatest exports, Paul Kelly can write great songs in his sleep. Unfortunately, since disbanding his great group the Messengers, many of Kelly’s songs–however solid–sound like they actually were written in his sleep. But this double album is beefier than usual, with more hits than misses that range from spaghetti western homage to junkyard blues. Kelly remains one of rock’s most incisive and efficient lyricists, but he still has a knack for great as well.
