The Bens
The Bens EP
Ben Folds, Ben Lee and Ben Kweller make up the sensitive singer-songwriting bonanza known as The Bens. The four-song import–now available online–that they cranked out in four studio days is stacked with quality, but don’t expect any bizarre catalyst effects. On “Just Pretend,” an impressive joint effort, each Ben takes his turn with a verse and high-fiving in the chorus. Otherwise, The Bens stick to what they do best on the remaining three songs that each feature one Ben and his very distinct style–Kweller’s spare, quirky folk-rock, Folds’ smooth storytelling and strapping piano accompaniments and Lee’s stretch into upbeat electro-pop and eerie Tom Petty vocals.
Take away: Ben-tastic bliss
