It’s Hollywood — actually West Hollywood — for Chicago furniture designer Critz Campbell of b9 Furniture

Two of his funky, fluorescent-lit, Eudora armchairs (named after writer Eudora Welty) along with one loveseat version are starring tonight at Vanity Fair’s annual Oscars party, one of Tinseltown’s biggest post-awards bashes, held at Mortons Restaurant.

Instead of “upholstering” his fiberglass chairs in his usual florals or plaids (Campbell encases fabric in several layers of polyester resin and then lights the translucent chair from its underside with two fluorescent bulbs), he was given special materials with which to work. Campbell was given fabric printed with vintage, black-and-white photographs of Greta Garbo, Mary Pickford and Walter Winchell.

“It’s exciting to see,” says Campbell. “It takes the chair in a new direction.”

The Eudora-Oscars armchair is not for sale. But other versions of Eudora ($2,800) are. Call b9 Furniture at 773-533-1985 or visit www.b9furniture.com.
