Apropa’t
Influenced by the year and a half Scott Heron (who often records as Prefuse 73) spent living in Barcelona exploring his roots, “Apropa’t” offers a mix of haunting, atmospheric chamber music, heavily indebted to Spanish folk and Brazilian psych. While Chicago luminaries such as John Herndon, Josh Abrams, John McEntire and Dave Max Crawford help out, the focus remains on Herren and his roommate Eva Puyuelo Muns, whose breathy Catalan vocals take centerstage. Instead of dedicating himself to cutting-edge hip-hop, here he offers the kind of stuff other hip-hop producers might sample.
