Plans for transforming Ravinia Avenue between 147th and 151st Streets into a boulevard with trees, benches and lighting is one of many street improvements in the works.

The plan, presented during a Planning and Economic Development Committee meeting Monday, is to create a village commons area tying in the park, village center, civic center and future library.

Improvements include lighting treatments and landscaping that will be duplicated elsewhere in the village, according to James Gamble of Skokie-based Land Design Collaborative. “This is an opportunity to connect the Village Hall and civic space,” he said.

The plans will include a three-way stop at the 149th street intersection, and medians and parking along the east side of the street.

Also Monday, the committee approved preliminary plans and a special-use permit for Sheffield Highlands, a 23-unit town home subdivision behind Lifetime Fitness at 94th Avenue and 175th Street.
