Farragut’s best all-around player, 6-foot-4-inch sophomore point guard Chris Singletary, was suspended for one game Monday by Public League sports administration director Calvin Davis.
Singletary initiated an altercation near the Westinghouse bench Saturday during Farragut’s 57-53 loss in the league semifinals, Davis said.

“The incident was shown on the live TV [WTTW-Ch. 11] telecast, and it was an embarrassment–a black eye for the Public League,” Davis said. “I am making a concerted effort to change the image and perception of the Public League, and unsportsmanlike conduct by players and coaches will not be tolerated.”
Singletary, who is averaging 18 points and seven assists, will miss the Class AA regional opener March 2 against the winner of the Gordon Tech-Kelvyn Park game.
So far this season, Davis has suspended Curie coach Mike Oliver for four games and Young’s Ron Branch, Manley’s Bo Delaney and Hope’s Gary Tate one game each for unsportsmanlike conduct. Lindblom coach Shawn Monroe, a Chicago policeman, has been placed on indefinite suspension pending an internal police department investigation into Monroe.
Looking to carry out Davis’ mandate are the leading candidates for Public League basketball coordinator: ex-Thornton basketball star Lloyd Batts, ex-King star Levertis Robinson and Lincoln Park coach Cyrus McGinnis. Outgoing coordinator is George Stanton.
