Marcus Green had 31 pts, including 4 threes, and grabbed 13 rebs to lead the Eagles (13-10) to an upset. Green scored Leyden’s 1st 10 en route to a 20-7 lead. “We had to come out and give them our best shot,” Green said. “It feels good to finally get that big win. When I hit my first shot I felt real confident.” Thornton, which played without Brandon Dagans, went on a 12-0 run to pull within 27-24 at half, but Leyden never gave up the lead. Dagans was suspended after getting two technicals Friday against Bloom. Joe Van Catron led Thornton (16-8) with 22 pts.

Christian Cornelius had 29 pts, 4 rebs, 4 steals as the Huskies (21-3) defeated Proviso East for the 1st time since 1989. Cornell Hill added 13 pts and Robert Strzemp added 10 pts, 10 rebs for Oak Park. Phillip Perry had 26 pts to lead Proviso East (14-10), which had a 16-5 lead in 1st quarter. Cornelius spearheaded a 21-4 run with a dunk to put the Huskies ahead for good. “This was definitely one of the bigger games of the season,” Cornelius said. “They’re in the same sectional as us. To win a game like this gives us a little confidence going into the sectional.”

Matt Feece scored 20 pts and converted a 3-point play with :17.9 left in OT to put the Huskies (10-15, 2-10) ahead for good. Peter Basso added 18 pts for North, which outscored Central 8-1 to end the game. Kyle Julius’ 23 pts led Central (15-9, 7-6).
