Watch out, Chicago singles! The Rejection Hotline has changed its local number to 773-509-5027. Founder Jeff Goldblatt said the 3-year-old hot line changed its number so rejectees won’t see it coming. “It wasn’t a real recognizable number, but it received so many calls,” said Goldblatt, 26, an MBA student in Atlanta.
Once the digits are dialed, a terse phone message from Goldblatt explains that “the person who gave you this number did not want you to have their real number,” then lists possible rejection reasons, such as “maybe you just give off that creepy, overbearing, psycho, stalker vibe.” It also suggests that people “move on.”
About 65,000 Chicagoans called the line in January, but Goldblatt said some callers just dial for a laugh.
Goldblatt added that the number won’t change again anytime soon. Nervous number seekers can sign up for e-mail updates at www.rejectionhotline.com and should beware of other blow-off favorites such as 588-2300 or saying they live at 1060 W. Addison St.
