Ever since Nirvana catapulted him to stardom, Dave Grohl has been living out his childhood fantasies, rocking arenas with the Foo Fighters, playing drums with Queens of the Stone Age and Killing Joke, and otherwise getting to rub shoulders with all his childhood idols. Grohl’s latest project, Probot, is a tribute to his long-simmering love of metal. Playing virtually all the instruments himself, Grohl invited the singers of all his favorite heavy metal acts–from Motorhead to Venom to Voivod to King Diamond–to growl, scream and shout a song apiece. The disc is unapologetically aggressive, but Probot is about living out the ultimate rock ‘n’ roll fantasy in all its Satanic, eardrum-damaging glory.
