Surfing with a guitar in hand

If you’ve always wanted to play an instrument, you can start the learning process now, thanks to Boston’s Berklee College of Music. The well-regarded music school (alums include John Mayer, Gillian Welch and “The Lord of the Rings” composer Howard Shore, among many others) recently debuted www.BerkleeShares.com, which offers scores of free downloadable lessons on everything from keyboard technique to guitar playing — heck, there’s even a lesson called “Basic Scratching for DJs.” Web surfers are free to download the PDF files that contain the lessons and share them at will, as long as they abide by the site’s not-too-restrictive Creative Commons license.
