Voodoo Child

Baby Monkey

Given his recent high-profile success, it comes as no surprise that Moby would want to retreat back behind his Voodoo Child alter ego, if only for a short vacation from the spotlight. Yet while the relative anonymity of the Voodoo Child moniker arguably affords the DIY maven even more freedom to explore adventurous detours, “Baby Monkey” feels surprisingly conservative. The disc features a dozen, mostly dull house tracks that sound like someone testing out their new digital recording suite 10 years ago. Granted, the disc does deliver on its promise of anonymity. But even given his admittedly uneven discography, Moby has proven he can do a lot better than these tepid tracks.

Take away: Soggy house
