The Naperville Plan Commission reviewed a proposal last week to demolish Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Naperville to make way for a new 37,500-square-foot chapel with gymnasium, day-care center and separate garage.
The church, located at 919 S. Washington St., also would include a youth center, welcoming area, outdoor center and courtyard, prayer garden, small outdoor amphitheater and banquet facilities that would serve 490 people.
Neighbors of the church expressed concerns about a possible increase in noise and light from the church and asked that the church provide heavy landscaping on the side of its property that borders residences. Neighbors also were concerned about the traffic the banquet facilities would generate and the 133 parking spaces the church is requesting.
Plan Commissioners urged church officials to meet with the residents to try and resolve their issues before the panel discusses the proposal again Feb. 4.
