Wesley Clark supporters took over Le Passage in Chicago on Tuesday night for a low-key fundraising party and to watch returns from the New Hampshire primary.

Most people seemed to prefer mingling to watching the returns on CNN, since their candidate was wavering between third and fourth place. No one munching on the crab cakes and prosciutto-wrapped asparagus seemed too concerned, though, dismissing New Hampshire as a “New England thing” and looking toward the South.

While most of the people there were already Clark supporters, a chance encounter in the ladies room may have found the campaign one more.

Jill Anderson, 27, a manager at the club, struck up a conversation with a supporter, who encouraged Anderson, also a part-time student at Northwestern, to get involved.

“We went from ‘the lights are really dim in here,’ to ‘come onboard,’ ” Anderson said. So Anderson left her e-mail address with organizers.
