Starsailor
Silence is Easy
Starsailor somehow lured Phil Spector out of retirement to produce two tracks on its second album “Silence is Easy,” but even the exciting taint of celebrity scandal can’t liven up the disc. With “Silence is Easy,” Starsailor incorporates pretty string arrangements into a slate of solid if staid songs, and while there’s nothing inherently unpleasant about a disc of bland orchestral pop, without a little sound and fury there’s sadly little here of interest. For all of James Walsh’s plaintive emoting, the songs barely register as more than background, hanging there like a nice set of drapes when it’s the view out the window that we really want to see.
