He had 11 in the 2nd quarter as St. Patrick outscored St. Laurence 18-8 for a 37-20 halftime lead. Matt Marino added 16 points and Mike Haiduc pitched in 11 points and 5 rebounds. Richard Hart led St. Laurence (7-9) with 12 points.

Steve Olson had 16 points and 7 rebounds and Curtis Goodwin added 10 points and was 9-of-10 from the line in the 4th. Tom Edwards’ 19 points led Downers North (4-8), who pulled within 41-38 early in the 4th before faltering. “I thought we all did a pretty good job of hitting our free throws down the stretch,” Goodwin said. “When a team’s coming back on you like that, there’s always going to be a little bit of pressure.”

After falling behind 4-0, Highland Park went on a 13-0 run over the 1st and 2nd quarters and led by as much as 23 in the 4th. “I don’t know if it was the long bus ride, but we settled down in the 1st quarter,” Highland Park coach Paul Harris said. “We’ve been digging ourselves a hole early in many games, and tonight it was nice to play through that.” Darrell Johnson led Auburn (6-8) with 15 points.

Christian (4-1). “This is a fun rivalry between the two schools,” said Petroelje, whose father went to Holland. “That’s the role I want when games are in doubt. I want the ball in my hand.”
