Children in the Prairie Trails South subdivision soon will get to play in a neighborhood park that their parents helped design.
The City Council this week approved plans by the Batavia Park District to develop the 2-acre site on Wind Energy Pass just west of Raddant Road. Park District officials are calling it Prairie Trails South Park for now, but it could get a new name once it’s finished this summer, said Planning and Development Director Jim Eby.
The new park will contain an area for children ages 2 to 5; a playground for children ages 5 to 12 with swings and a seesaw, walking paths and a picnic shelter. Aldermen said the district must plant trees every 40 feet along Wind Energy Pass. Equipment, construction and landscaping will cost about $120,000, Eby said.
The Park District began asking residents to help design parks in their neighborhoods two years ago.
“It makes sense because they don’t want to live near a park that doesn’t meet their needs and we don’t want to spend money on equipment that won’t be used,” Eby said.
