Showtime is ready to go into weekly therapy. The cable network has picked up the Hank Azaria drama “Huff.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Showtime is set to go to series on the project from feature director Mike Newell. The pilot for “Huff” was written by Bob Lowry, who will executive produce, along with Newell (“Mona Lisa Smile”) and Cam Jones.
The series stars Azaria as Craig Huffstodt, a psychiatrist facing a midlife crisis. Oliver Platt, Paget Brewster and Blythe Danner are in place to co-star.
“Huff” was one of three pilots ordered by former programming head Jerry Offsay before his departure from Showtime earlier this year, and it is the first pilot approved by Offsay’s successor, Robert Greenblatt. The others ordered were Spike Lee’s “SFC” and the televangelist drama, “Paradise.”
