The Farrellys aren’t the only brother team making comedies. Other notable fraternal films include:
1. ‘THE NAKED GUN: FROM THE FILES OF POLICE SQUAD!’
(David Zucker, 1988) (star)(star)(star)1/2
The ZAZ team (Zucker brothers David and Jerry, Jim Abrahams) behind “Airplane!” and “Top Secret!” reached their prime with the first “Naked Gun” movie. As clueless cop Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) clumsily uncovers a plot to assassinate Queen Elizabeth, he kills a rare fish, sets an office on fire and evokes a Yankee Stadium riot.

2. ‘WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN’
(Pedro Almodovar, 1988) (star)(star)(star)
Viewers may go mad waiting, but “Breakdown” ends with a rousing finale, when an insane woman (Julieta Serrano), brandishing two guns and freakish fake eyelashes, hijacks a Harley and sets off to kill her cheating husband. Pedro’s brother Agustin serves as executive producer.
3. ‘THE HUDSUCKER PROXY’
(Joel Coen, 1994) (star)(star)(star)(star
This underrated comedy by the Coen brothers (Joel directed, Ethan co-wrote) lacks the bite of their darker works, but it’s a fantastically enchanting fable about a naive college grad (Tim Robbins) who becomes the successful CEO of a huge corporation, plummets from grace and eventually finds redemption.
4. ‘ARMY OF DARKNESS’
(Sam Raimi, 1993) (star)(star)(star)(star)
Sam Raimi, with co-screenwriter and older brother Ivan, caps off his “Evil Dead” trilogy with this wild B-movie parody featuring Bruce Campbell as Ash, a shotgun-toting, catchphrase-spitting discount department store employee fighting demons and the undead in medieval Europe.
5. ‘ADAPTATION’
(Spike Jonze, 2002) (star)(star)(star)1/2
Charlie and Donald Kaufman received Best Screenplay Oscar nominations for this surreal “self-examination” of twin screenwriters (both played by Nicolas Cage). But while Donald Kaufman is credited with co-writing “Adaptation,” the alleged twin Charlie doesn’t exist, marking the first time a fake person received an Oscar nomination.
