Chicago Police Officer Matthew Jackson says observing the rule is respectful and neighborly.
“If you have cleared a spot, it’s yours” Jackson said. “It’s common courtesy.”
If someone takes the spot, there’s no legal recourse–even if you’ve put chairs or other place-savers there.
“It would take a coldhearted person to do something like that,” Jackson said.
