Following in the footsteps of Madonna, John Lithgow, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jay Leno, Ray Romano is branching into the business of writing books for children. The Emmy-winning star has inked a deal with Simon & Schuster for the publication of a kid’s tome due in the fall of 2004.
Romano will write “Raymie, Dickie, and the Bean: Why I Love and Hate My Brothers” with brothers Robert, a New York City schoolteacher, and Richard, a retired New York police sergeant.
Glin Dibly will illustrate the book, which focuses on the often disgusting, often rude, often mean world of brotherly love.
“When my brothers and I weren’t fighting with each other, we had a lot of fun growing up,” Romano says. “Now it’s great as adults to collaborate with them on this book and fight with each other once again.”
While Romano and “Everybody Loves Raymond” executive producer Phil Rosenthal have said that this season may be the series’ last, CBS Chairman and CEO Les Moonves has repeatedly expressed his optimism that the show’s creative team can be encouraged to stick around for at least one more year.
