The controversy that raged after the Class AA girls sectional assignments were made in 2002 has been somewhat avoided by the IHSA this season.
Fenwick, which was thrown in the same group as Public League powers Marshall and Young last year, has been assigned to a different sectional for the playoffs that begin in February. The No. 5 Friars are at Morton with, among others, No. 11 Trinity. But No. 2 Marshall and No. 6 Young will still have to fight it out in the same section.
A sectional final rematch between No. 7 Neuqua Valley and No. 9 Naperville Central, the defending champion, is also possible.
In the boys bracket, No. 1 Homewood-Flossmoor is in the same group as No. 6 Hillcrest. Public League powers Westinghouse and Farragut are in the Gordon Tech sectional.
